This is an original, rolled, one-sheet movie poster from 1987 for Empire of the Sun starring Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Miranda Richardson and Joe Pantoliano. Steven Spielberg directed the film based on the novel by J here.G. Ballard. John Alvin is the artist for the poster.

While the images allow increasing passages of time between events and the photographs that reflect on them – “made moments after the events they depict, then those made days after, then months, years and so on” – there settles in the pit of the stomach some unremitting melancholy, some unholy dread as to the brutal facticity and inhumanness of war. The work which “pictures” the memory of the events that took place, like a visual ode of remembrance, are made all the more powerful for their transcendence – of time, of death and the immediate detritus of war.

Conflict, Time, Photography is curated at Tate Modern by Simon Baker, Curator of Photography and International Art, with Shoair Mavlian, Assistant Curator, and Professor David Mellor, University of Sussex. It is organised by Tate Modern in association with the Museum Folkwang, Essen and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Dresden, where it will tour in spring and summer 2015 respectively. The exhibition is also accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue from Tate Publishing and a programme of talks, events and film screenings at Tate Modern.

The best way to demonstrate this is to start feeling your way through your own projects. Once you prove to yourself that you know at least 60% what you’re doing, you can 60% convince someone else you know, and they’ll know about 25% of what’s involved, so to them you’ll seem overqualified, and meanwhile you can figure out the remaining 40% as you go, when it’s too late for them to stop you.

Melted was born in 2017. I was facing some hard time regarding my profession, but I wanted to push forward and inspire others to do the same. So I put my fears aside, and several huge cups of coffee later, this project was born. It moved exclusively to Medium in 2021.

I recommend taking a look at my dailies and personal projects page, which will give you a good starting point for coming up with your own projects (as well as frank insight into my own early design work, which I have had described as “bold” and “not quite Air Bud 6 material, I’m afraid”). For further inspiration, I also wrote some tips on finding design inspiration, because I don’t know how to communicate to people outside of tips anymore. 1) thank you for reading. 2) goodbye.

Technological advancements, such as digital design and CGI, revolutionized the industry, enabling designers to create realistic and mesmerizing visual effects. Graphic design’s influence extended beyond titles, permeating set design, props, costumes, and marketing materials, resulting in a cohesive visual experience that enhances storytelling.
